Rumors are catching up that it is loaded with Google’s mobile operating system called Android. At present Google is testing it thoroughly before it make a foray in the smart phone market. Reportedly it has just one virtual keyboard with a powerful 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon mobile processor. Earlier version of HTC had physical keyboard and they used much slow processor. HTC Dragon will directly compete with iphone and counts over Motorola’s Droid. It has a 4.3-inch (480×800) capacitive display and a lithe silhouette. The powerful operating system of Google made it an unmatchable device with which you will get tons of features. This time it’s quite possible that it will be market with a brand name of Google as a “Google’s Phone” because Google is directly involved in the development. It is speculated that HTC dragon will provide a screen resolution of 800*400. The phone will be fully touch screen loaded with 2.0 firmware software along with the HTC Sense user interface which is applied for style. With the launch of HTC Tattoo, HTC has ensured that the highly popular Google Android OS is quite easily affordable to people. Finally, HTC delivers a smartphone that is power packed with all the latest features and still keeping it a mid-budget phone. Just like other smartphones, HTC has designed its own Sense user interface for this Android device. The name Tattoo signifies the back cover that has various sketches and can be changed anytime.

HTC Tattoo is a compact smartphone, although the screen size is compromised to 2.8 inch screen, something that you do not find in high end smartphones. The phone is made of glossy plastic with great finishing, and hence looks very unique and stylish. The 3-megapixel powerful camera is surrounded by a metallic plate that is useful for the protection of the lens. The quality of the pictures is standard as the phone lacks the auto-focus feature. Since the memory card slot has been placed under the back cover, you must remove the back cover every time you wish to change the memory card.

As far as the applications and their features are concerned, HTC Tattoo is a sure winner. Apart from the usual applications that are included in normal Android phones, the Home screen includes previews of several well-known pages like Google, eBay, MySpace, Facebook, CNN, BBC etc. The smartphone’s memory stores the last six applications that you accessed, and you can directly access them later by holding the Home button.

It supports all the latest technologies for wireless communications like Wi-Fi, 3G and Bluetooth and is also compatible with all email clients and protocols. The only drawback it is not directly compatible with Microsoft Outlook and you need to configure Exchange Server to access Outlook.

The music quality is good although not great but music has never been the selling point of HTC. The battery quality for the phone is good and last for about 2 days and you can almost double the battery life by disabling the live connection to widgets that are not in use. All in all, it is a great phone, and a must for every beginner in the Android world.

The most awaited smartphone of the season. That’s what the hype was around the HTC Hero. And definitely HTC has lived up to the expectations and this is by far the most advanced Android smartphone in the market.

The physical design of the phone is very unique and classy and gives a rich faux-leather feel. The touch screen of the phone is very fast and responsive and gets things done very efficiently. The phone at times might slow down with multiple applications opened at the same time, something that needs to been taken care of by Android soon. The buttons on the keypad are friendly and is becoming a trademark on all Android smartphones. The virtual keyboard of the phone is decent and clear although you might feel trapped at times because of the narrow screen of the phone. The basic settings of the phone are very good and absolutely user friendly. Applications like Maps, Google Voice, Amazaon MP3, Voice Recorder work great and are very robust. Frequently used applications like Bluetooth, Wi-fi etc are quickly accessible without digging much into the phone.

The 5-megapixel camera ensures amazing picture clarity added with the auto-focus feature. The video quality of the phone is not up to the mark but nevertheless acceptable. Although the phone lacks FM Radio, the sound quality of the phone is excellent and you can pause, play and skip the songs from the home page itself. The web-browsing experience is very good and the features like pinch and zoom work great with text and pictures. The phone supports almost all email clients and the entire e-mailing process is very user-friendly. The battery life of the phone is normal and runs an entire day with a single charge. A major drawback of the phone, the back of the phone gets warm pretty quickly and can be a distraction at times. Overall, a class act from HTC, something that it does so often. A real Hero in almost every sense.

HTC Magic

Review

The HTC Magic is a smartphone based on Android operating system which provides an edge over other smart phones. The slimmer and sleeker Magic makes use of a 3.2-inch HVGA (480×320) touchscreen display. The operating platform Android which is being used is version 1.5, codenamed “cupcake”, and is quite similar to the original version of Android with some added features.

PROS

One of the major feature which provide an edge over other android phones is the presence of an on-screen keyboard (virtual keyboard) with a landscape mode while rotating which provides the best way to type a message as fast as possible.

The Magic is much better at surfing and browsing the web. Its Webbrowser browser is worth appreciating with fast load times, user friendly and manageable navigation

Additional pre-installed Google services; Maps, Calendar, GMail and GoogleTalk are all present along with google search bar at the top of the home screen.

Multitasking feature of the phone continues to enhance the performance of phone which indicates the use of impressive processor.

CONS

The HTC Magic lacks a 3.5mm headphone jack and it does not include an adapter in the box even.

Battery is still a issue for frequent net users providing only 12 hours in case of heavy download from Wi Fi otherwise it may run for a day or so.

It has a 3.2-megapixel camera but with little flash, so you cannot take pictures at night or in places in low light.

There is no FM radio and no video call camera provided in phone and moreover you cannot transfer your data files over bluetooth.

Review

HTC Dream, now known as the T-Mobile G1 might not have the specifications to really surprise us but we guess the Android OS was still a option to consider and it may impress users. All smart phone features lose their charm infront of the most powerful operating system ANDROID. There’s huge potential for the T-Mobile G1 (and any Android devices after it) to become powerful minicomputers as one of the advantage of android is that as it is open source so any developer in any part of the world can create his own applications and can provide you for your phone.

PROS

The G1 boots in about 49 seconds,(which is quite fast) compared to iPhone 3G at 54 seconds.

It’s interface includes all features of a computer like icons, folders, applications and the screen being TFT so these applications can be easily scrolled with fingers.

Its revolutionary open-source operating system known as Android, which allows independent developers residing in any part of the world to create useful applications to make them available for use. With the help of Android , one can create applications as easy as notepad and as difficult as shopping networks and social sites features.

The picture quality is worth appreciating with sharp contrast and good brightness levels on the TFT display.

CONS

T-Mobile G1 can’t be relied when we talk of call quality and battery life. The company still need to put a lot of effort in call quality and most importantly battery life because smart phones can be useful only if they have good battery backup.

There is no flash of any kind in 3 MP camera, making it impossible to click photographs at night or in low light.

The G1 doesn’t include a standard heaphone jack and lacks Microsoft Exchange support.

Mail attachments such as office documents and PDF files are displayed but you can’t download them and files saved on the memory card or in the phone’s inbuilt memory can’t be viewed either.
